Q. What documents are required
to apply for a job?
A. Full or part-time benefits-eligible
positions require the submission of a University of Utah application
(available at http://www.hr.utah.edu/)
and/or resume. Applications can be submitted online at the University
HR Web site. Include the appropriate job number(s).
Q. Where do I send my application?
A. If you are applying for a position
that is eligible for University of Utah benefits, all applications
must be submitted to the University of Utah Human Resources department
via their Web site www.hr.utah.edu.
U of U HR asks that all applications be submitted in this way, and
NOT by other means, e.g., e-mail or fax.
To apply for
a part-time or temporary position that is not eligible for University
of Utah benefits, submit a resume and/or completed University of
Utah application to the KUED/UEN Human Resources Officer:
Christy Dunn
KUED/Utah Education Network
Human Resources Officer
101 Wasatch Dr., Rm. 215
Salt Lake City UT 84112
Phone: (801)
585-6021
Fax: (801) 585-5096
cdunn@media.utah.edu
E-mail is preferred.
In either case, you may send a back up to the other H.R. department,
but this is not required.
Q. How should I send my application?
A. For positions that include
benefits, complete an online application at the University of Utah
Human Resources website: www.hr.utah.edu:
Please include the job number. You may include a resume if you wish.
For positions without benefits, you can send a resume to the KUED/UEN
Human Resources Officer: cdunn@media.utah.edu.
Q. When do these postings close?
A. Positions posted through University
Human Resources must be posted a minimum of seven (7) calendar days.
However, most positions are posted longer than seven days and are
closed whenever a sufficient number of applications have been received,
or a candidate is selected.
Part-time or temporary positions recruited directly through the
station close whenever a candidate is selected.
Q. Does KUED/UEN Human Resources
keep resumes on file and refer interested parties to positions as
they become available?
A. No. To be considered for a position
at KUED or the Utah Education Network, applications or resumes need
to be submitted within the posting time frame of any current opening.
Anyone interested in positions at KUED or the Utah Education Network
can check our websites at www.kued.org,
www.uen.org or the University of
Utah Human Resources Office Web site at http://www.hr.utah.edu/
for a listing of available openings. Visit the Universitys
Human Resources Web site for information regarding their policies
on keeping hiring applications and/or resumes on file.
Q. Can I send you a resume tape
or audition tape? What about a story reel?
A. Unlike most commercial local
network affiliates, but in line with most PBS affiliate stations,
KUED does not produce daily local packaged or anchored news. Unsolicited
tapes are not kept on file. KUED produces local film-style documentaries,
one weekly public affairs interview show, (Civic Dialogue) and one
periodic public affairs show, (Special Report). KUED Media Solutions
provides stand-alone multimedia services to clients within the University
and local community. Turnover in the KUED Production department
and KUED Media Solutions is uncommon. KUER FM90, the University
of Utahs National Public Radio station, produces local packaged
news; see their website at www.kuer.org
for current postings. Also, the Utah Broadcasters Association
sponsors a career fair at the Union Building on the University of
Utah campus in early spring. Broadcasting stations representing
the Salt Lake area are available to visit with students and visitors
about career opportunities in the broadcasting field.
Q. I have an idea for a documentary.
What do I need to do?
A.
Please submit a one-page proposal to the Production Department via
e-mail at askkued@kued.org. In the subject line, write one-page
documentary proposal.
Q. What about internships?
A. Internships at KUED and the
Utah Education Network become available occasionally based on departmental
needs and budget constraints. Internship opportunities are posted
on our website. The KUED Production department selects one University
of Utah junior or senior to work as a summer intern each year. This
is a great opportunity for a student interested in the broadcast
field. The intern assists the Sr. Producer with Production activities
and spends several days in each departmental area of KUED. In addition
to the KUED Web site, flyers are posted on the bulletin of the Communication
and Film departments when this position becomes available.
Q. What about volunteering?
A. KUED and UEN are always happy
to put your name down as being interesting in giving your time.
You can volunteer for KUED in two ways: 1) organize a group to answer
phones on the air during our membership drives or, 2) serve as an
office volunteer on an individual basis. For more information, see
the Volunteer page in the Support KUED section of kued.org.
Q. How do I find out information
about KUED/UEN benefits?
A. You can visit the University
of Utah Human Resources department website at http://www.hr.utah.edu/
for information about benefits, work life programs, training opportunities,
salary ranges, etc.
KUED and the University of Utah are Equal Opportunity Employers
and will provide reasonable accommodation for the known disabilities
of applicants and potential employees.
